During Easter, Idente Volunteers and World Youth Parliament visited some Orphanages to show the play about the Risen Christ. The young people presented the passage of the Gospel about the Resurrection that gives hope and also the assurance that Christ can make possible all that seems to be impossible just as He was able to conquer even death.
Aside from presenting the resurrection play, the group also prepared some personalized Easter cards for the kids. Those cards were made by the young people and they have images and designs about Easter like the tomb, the two disciples of Emmaus who were surprised that Christ came to them to explain that He is the Messiah and remains present in the Eucharist, Mary Magdala crying to see Christ and of course, the image of the risen Christ. It carries the name of each one of the children, with messages of hope and encouragement for them.
As the play was presented, the children were astonished upon seeing the real significance of the resurrection, they got to see that Easter has nothing to do with eggs and bunnies. They discovered that it’s all about Christ. The same Christ whom they received whenever they receive Holy Communion. After the play, the volunteers had a chance to talk with the children. At this time, they got to see how the children longed for affection and love.
One of the volunteers said that “aside from including them in our prayers, we should also pray that they may be able to perceive the love of Christ for each one of them as it is a reality”. Certainly, we cannot change their present situation, but we can assure them how our Heavenly Father loves them and takes care of them. And also, that they may live what Christ wants for them.
After the play and sharing with the children, a member of the World Youth Parliament said in her reflection that we should direct these children towards our Heavenly Father’s love and not our own self-love. His love is a kind of love that will never abandon them and with the hope that comes from Christ; His very love will transform and console them.
